Dear IKEA Hiring Team,
I am Yuna, an interaction designer who builds simple and intuitive digital experiences. I strongly believe that my background in user experience design, information architecture, and product strategy aligns with the responsibilities of the UX Architect role.
Design Facilitator: In my current role as UX Designer II at Artefact, a strategy and design firm, I have extensive experience ideating and prototyping responsible design solutions for clients in tech, health, and education. My experience at a design consultancy and teams at Microsoft and P&G have allowed me to become a facilitator of ideas and collaboration with stakeholders. I leverage data, wireframes, and design tools like journey maps to provoke conversation and communicate design rationale.
Insight-Driven: On each project, I uphold UX considerations on a range of deliverables (mobile, tablet, website, slide deck). I am comfortable switching between more conceptual, technical, and content-heavy projects.
For the client American Airlines, I led the discovery, concept development, and design delivery for a new in-flight entertainment interface for the back seat screens of their 2025 fleet of airplanes. We leveraged in-depth interviews to rapidly iterate our content designs and features. The outcome was a future-proof design system with intuitive UX patterns, user-flows, and simplified information architecture maps. With the client Microsoft’s Office of Responsible AI, I helped reimagine how their complex policies and content can be communicated to non-technical audiences such as government officials.
Critical Thinker: On the teams I work on, I am best known for taking a design prompt and generating a breadth of concepts and advocating for inclusive design approaches. I share my learnings as a designer situated in the broader public conversation (read my writing).
Over the years, IKEA’s democratic design principles have tremendously influenced my values as a designer. I cannot imagine a more exciting opportunity than to shape the future of IKEA’s digital capabilities with an imaginative and responsible lens.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Yuna Shin
